  • Do you like the smell of gasoline or the smell of glue?
  • It is an unconscious reaction of our body
  • Inhaling these products voluntarily can be dangerous.

It is common for people to like the pleasant and mild smells of our surroundings, such as a spring field full of wild flowers or the smell of the sea breeze. However, sometimes we find pleasant smells that we know are even harmful by their vapors. We are talking about gasoline, glue, burnt wheel … If you are one of those who like these smells and do not understand the reason, we explain why you like them.

Obviously not everyone likes the smell of gasoline, for example, and there are people who repudiate this strong aroma. But many people in general do find it pleasant, at least when they have the opportunity to smell it at a gas station or on a go-kart track. It is not strange that this oil derivative can have a smell that we like, since it is composed of hydrocarbons and other chemical elements, and that is where this smell comes from.

Hydrocarbons are the cause of the strong smell

Hydrocarbons often include compounds that have an intense and peculiar smell, as do cleaning products, paints of various types or glues. Inhaling gasoline can temporarily alter the function of the nervous system, the same as with alcohol. We could cause a mild state of euphoria, so unconsciously the body does not reject the smell and, in many cases, it even seems pleasant.

Obviously the gasoline vapors are not good for our body, but nothing will happen to anyone to smell them momentarily at a gas station. These gases do not pose risks unless they are intentionally inhaled for long periods of time, in which case they could be extremely dangerous. And it is that among the hydrocarbons of gasoline is benzene, being a potentially carcinogenic element.
