“I still can't find honest sports directors”

Although the subsidiary consummated last weekend that, finally, it will have to fight to avoid relegation in the next phase of the bizarre Second B, nobody imagined that the sports management would decide to do without José Aurelio Gay. The club had made a risky bet in order to accelerate the formation processes of the homegrown players, and that had meant that the average age of the squad will not even reach 20 years, but finally “They have pushed us over the precipice.”

Gay commented on Pericos de Radio Marca about his dissatisfaction with the sports management headed by Francisco Rufete: “There was no pressure or threats. At the beginning of the course I already asked them if it was time to make this bet. In no case did they take me into account despite being a veteran coach. It was a romantic idea, I aligned myself with them, but when things go wrong they don't give you a hand or protect you. I continue to find myself an orphan of sports directors with honesty ”.

The technician acknowledges that “I have enjoyed how it has been a long time since I have been successful” and that “I would have liked to finish my job.” He gave the example of Jordi Lardín: “He trusted Gallego and supported him until the end. He told him to go on and finish the job”. For Gay, the idea of sports management, which at the end of July decided to renew practically the entire subsidiary, was risky considering the specificity of this course.

“It was a romantic idea, I aligned with them, but when things go wrong they don't give you a hand or protect you”

“My proposal was to take the six or seven youngest players and the older players, who in difficult moments know how to manage the situation. You had to pay attention to performance. My proposal was to make a mix. We even proposed with David García, head of recruitment, several names. But they were not taken into account ”, he valued. “From there, any mistake makes it difficult for you to come back. The idea of the club was to continue building a very young team. I saw it exhilarating. The team competed in every game, but there is a process and you are going to pay for it with mistakes and you will not win often. They have been scared and it seems unfair, especially with the technical team. I am used to”.

Gay, who has assumed the reins of the subsidiary in the last two seasons, details all the young players who have debuted this campaign: “The base of the team was from 2001, nine juniors have debuted, two of them from 2004. One is from June and the other is October, they were only 16 years old. This week two more were going to debut ”.
