Granadilla ends the Atleti and Barça duopoly

The Granadilla signed last Sunday against Logroño (2-0) their sixth consecutive victory of the season. A historical milestone, being his best record in a league start, which leaves him as provisional leader of the Primera Iberdrola with 19 points. In the absence of the three games postponed by Barça's COVID-19 (3rd, 15 points), the Canary Islands lead the table with two points more than Atlético, which is second with wins, two draws and one defeat. A big surprise that It breaks with the dominance of the rojiblanco and azulgrana in the League and maintains a great dream in Tenerife.

Besides this, the Granadilla is the the first team to end the Barça and Atlético duopoly in the leadership of Primera Iberdrola after more than four years. The last club to occupy the first place in the top women's category was Athletic on June 12, 2016, at which time the lionesses were proclaimed champions of the First Iberdrola.

Since then, Barça and Atlético have shared their success in the league, with rojiblanco predominating. The Madrilenians won three consecutive league titles, from 2017 to 2019, being the last national trophy for the Catalans, who are the only First Iberdrola team that has achieved full victories (5) in the early stages of this unusual season.

A leader forged in the final minutes

Much has changed since Granadilla was defeated on the first match by Madrid CFF (0-1). That match was followed by a surprising draw against Atlético (1-1) and six victories scored in the final minutes.

The Tenerife women stand out for drawing their grit in the final stretch of the matches, specifically in the last half hour. So, The Canarian team adds 13 of their current 19 points thanks to so many achieved from minute 60. Nobody can relax before the team led by Francis Díaz.
