Decathlon Spain bets on adapted sports with the launch of a textile and material collection

MADRID, 10 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Decathlon Spain has launched a wide range of textiles and material so that people with permanent or temporary physical disabilities can practice sport, as part of its commitment to making sport accessible to the entire population.

After having launched for the first time in Italy, Decathlon Spain is one of the first five countries to put the adapted sports range on sale. “The project began in Italy four years ago and, after excellent results, it is launched in other countries. In Spain, after getting to know the practitioners, clubs and associations very well, we have decided to bet on it. It is a pride to be able to say that we are more close to all athletes, starting a new history of Decathlon with the arrival of these products to give visibility and promote adapted sports”, declared Jordi Roda, Commercial Director of adapted sports in Spain.

This offer is designed for three different environments. In the first place, for a recreational environment to help practice sports both at the federation and at the user level. Second, as a response to a hearing, physical, visual or motor disability. And finally, to help athletes reach their highest level of competition at the Paralympic Games.

“It’s not just about focusing on high competition but on how we can be agents of change for the incorporation into sports practice of someone who may have had an accident or injury, in which sport is also part of the recovery, integration and enjoyment in practice,” said Roda.

Based on the study of the anatomy of athletes with different disabilities, each product has been designed to be functional in terms of movement, fit and performance before, during and after sports activity. Tested and developed in Italy, it offers security and guarantee.

This offer is divided into two blocks. A part of the equipment based on chairs adapted for basketball, tennis, fencing, cycling and athletics, all of them approved, designed under the requirements of the EN 12183:2014 standard. These will be sold only online or, in the case of wanting to purchase them physically, the user can order it in a store where the seller will make the order online.

In addition, an after-sales service for the repair of the material will be offered in all stores. Currently, two models for basketball can be purchased on the Decathlon website. The rest of the sports will be available soon.

A textile part designed for women, men, girls and boys where comfort and ease of use and donning are the great promises, both for permanent and temporary disabilities. These products can be purchased physically in 25 stores in Spain and online.

For the last quarter of 2022, a wide range of underwear will be on sale and, from spring-summer 2023, the textile range of sports pants and jackets designed for women, men, girls and boys.

“30 years ago Decathlon arrived in Spain to make sport even more accessible to all of society and today, in 2022, we are proud to say that Decathlon Spain, true to its meaning, is taking its first steps with a range of products for sport adapted, wanting to promote the practice of sports with all those people who have a permanent or temporary physical disability”, concluded Roda.
