CN Sabadell keeps its European champion crown

MADRID, 21 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Astralpool Sabadell became European champions for the seventh time, second consecutive time, by beating Greek Olympiakos (16-10) in this Sunday’s final held in Barcelona.

CN Sabadell expanded its winning record against an Olympiakos team that prevented the Spanish final on Saturday by eliminating Assolim CN Mataró in the semi-finals. The bronze went to CN Sant Andreu in an epic match against Mataró (8-7) also this Sunday.

The final started close in the first set, but Sabadell imposed its law in the second and third, where they scored 11 goals against the Greeks to leave the last minutes for celebration. Sofia Giustini, with five goals, Irene González, Sabrina Van del Sloot, Judith Forca and Maica García carried the offensive weight.

Although Olympiakos reacted at the beginning of the third quarter with a 0-2 run, Sabadell’s response was to seal the final with seven goals (13-6). Those from Vallés defended their crown before facing, as great contenders, the Queen’s Cup and the final stretch of the League.
