Carlos III practices environmental backtracking: first touch so that he does not get involved in politics

Charles III will not attend the Cop27 climate change summit, to be held next November in Egypt, at the request of the new British Prime Minister, Liz Truss.

Truss, who is also unlikely to attend, opposed the plans of the monarch, who was scheduled to give a speech to world leaders who will be present, during his meeting at Buckingham Palace a few weeks ago.

Apparently, from the Downing Street 10 office they want to keep the father of Guillermo y Harry away from political issues. A source close to the king told Sunday Times: “The queen gave a completely apolitical speech at this summit last year…it seems that Charles is not being given the choice. That is an error of judgment on the part of the government.” “The king could go and deliver the government’s message and give it credibility, given all the accolades he gets in that space,” he added.

The role of Carlos III, unlike his mother, worries the Government because of his reputation for “meddling” in state affairs. In 2015, the son of Isabel II faced great controversy over the so-called ‘black spider memos‘, letters he wrote to ministers over the years, allegedly trying to pressure them one way or another on the Iraq war, among other issues. However, he argued that he was only raising “issues of public interest and trying to find practical ways to deal with the problems.”

More recent were the “money bags”specifically 2.6 million pounds sterling, which he accepted as a “donation” from the former Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, which had Carlos in the spotlight. But Clarence House, his official residence, insisted the donation was handled properly.

On September 12, Carlos III gave his first speech before the members of the British Parliament to whom he promised to reign “disinterestedly” as his mother did, and with respect “to constitutional principles”. Is that a way to prove it?

What is Cop27?

Cop27 is a coming together of the 27 United Nations seeking to address Climate Change at a conference taking place November 6-18 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
