Burgos, 18 games and 3 titles as Atlético's 'first coach'

Germán Burgos leaves Atlético and will leave a void that will be very difficult to fill. For Simeone, he has been much more than an assistant and a counselor during these almost nine years on the team. Too has managed to take his place when Cholo has not been able to sit on the bench by sanction. The monkey has had be 'head coach' in 18 games from the beginning, two of them with a title at stake.

Simeone missed by sanction the two finals of 2018: that of the Europa League in May and that of the European Super Cup in August. Atlético returned with the two trophies for home, one conquered in Lyon and the other in Tallinn. That punishment to Cholo came for his expulsion in the first leg of the semifinals against Arsenal. With Burgos he also won on the lap (1-0) and there was a fourth penalty game for the first coach, Monaco-Atlético, first day of the following Champions League, which also won the rojiblancos (1-2).

The last meeting in which Burgos exercised as head coach was Atlético-Villarreal in February. The rojiblancos won 3-1. It was the only one this season. In exchange, 14-15 was the course in which he had to face most often as number one. Simeone was sent off on the return of the Spanish Super Cup against Madrid, a game that Burgos ended up leading and which also earned a title for Atlético. Later, Cholo lost four punishment matches (and a fifth for yellow accumulation) in the League, plus another in the Champions League final, which was a defeat at Olympiacos' home.

Thus, the balance of those 18 Atlético matches without Simeone and with Burgos as first in command is 13 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses. Among them, two titles, plus a third that ended with the Mono on the bench.
