Barty withdraws from the WTA 1,000 in Indian Wells and Miami

Australian tennis player Ashleigh Barty, number 1 in the WTA ranking, announced this Friday that she will not play the Indian Wells and Miami Masters that will be played this month.

“Unfortunately my body has not recovered in the way that I had hoped after the Australian Open and I haven’t been able to prepare adequately for Indian Wells and Miami,” he explained in a statement.

“I don’t think I am at the level necessary to win those events and as a result I have decided to withdraw from both tournaments.”he added, emphasizing that his focus is now on taking care of his physique.

Barty won the Australian Open by defeating American Danielle Collins in the final.who also announced today that he will not go to Indian Wells due to injury.

This tournament, considered as “the fifth Grand Slam”, will be played in the Californian desert from March 7 to 20.

The Spanish Paula Badosa will defend the title she won in Indian Wells last year while in the men’s draw the great attraction will be her compatriot Rafael Nadal, on a roll after being crowned at the Australian Open and at the Mexican Tennis Open played in Acapulco.

After Indian Wells it will be the turn of Miami, where the best rackets on the planet will meet from March 21 to April 3.
