Why Klopp will not return to Dortmund

Midtjylland announced this Friday that its game against Liverpool on December 9, on the last day of the Champions League, can be played in Denmark, after the United Kingdom Government has relaxed its health regulations due to Covid-19. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will not then return to Dortmund for a match for now. His ex-club, Borussia Dortmund, had announced hours before that it would host the team match of his legendary ex-coach.

The Government of the United Kingdom required those who returned from Denmark a 14-day quarantine, but it has agreed to make an exception for elite athletes, so that on the 9th Midtjylland-Liverpool can be played at the MHC Arena, stadium of the Danish set. This was reported by Midtjylland this Friday in a statement.

The truth is that Borussia Dortmund also issued an official note hours earlier stating that Midtjylland-Liverpool would be played at Signal Iduna Park. The stadium in which Klopp became a symbol of Dortmund, with which among other titles he won two Bundesligas, a German Cup and two Super Cups. The current Liverpool manager managed Borussia Dortmund between 2008 and 2015.

Liverpool can qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League if they beat Ajax on December 1 at Anfield. The 'reds' are leaders of group D, with 2 points more than Ajax and Atalanta. Midtjylland have yet to score any points.
