UEFA demands to change the rule that regulates how hands are punished

Aleksander
Ceferin, President of UEFA, has sent a letter to his FIFA counterpart, the Italian Gianni
Infantino, in which it requests changes in the regulations that mark when hands should be penalized with foul or penalty.

Ceferin, in the letter to which the Associated Press had access and which was sent on October 27, asks for a greater flexibility by the referees in this type of action so that the footballers do not be unfairly punished.

In recent times there have been “several cases of excessive punishment for involuntary contact of the players with the arm or the hand and the ball. It is necessary to strictly define the cases in which it is really irregular the game with the hands or the arms ”.

“There have been many unfair decisions about it and this has created increasing frustration and discomfort in the soccer community, ”the letter reads. Ceferin proposes to discuss this point at the next meeting of the International
Board, the body that sets the rules of football and is under the control of FIFA, scheduled for this month of November.

“That the ball goes to the hands or arms of the players is something frequent and so many times inevitable. And this is why it should not be punished too harshly because many times this type of situation they end up deciding the result of the parties ”, concludes Ceferin.
