Toni Bou, Aina Florenza, David Martín and Juan Carlos Unzué, among the winners at the Catalan Sports Festival

The pilot Toni Bou, the roller hockey player Aina Florenza, the national men’s water polo coach, David Martín, or the former coach Juan Carlos Unzué, were some of those recognized this Tuesday at the 26th edition of ‘La Festa de l’Esport Català ‘ (‘The Catalan Sports Festival’), organized by the Union of Sports Federations of Catalonia (UFEC) and the sports newspaper ‘Sport’.

The event, held at the CaixaForum Barcelona, ​​rewards the most outstanding Catalan athletes and entities of the season, as well as those who deserve special recognition for their sporting career.

Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Trial Team), who in 2022 was proclaimed world champion both outdoors and indoors for the sixteenth consecutive time, and Aina Florenza received their awards as ‘Best Catalan Athletes’.

In addition, David Martín, the national men’s water polo coach, was recognized as the ‘Best Coach’ after leading the team to world gold and continental bronze, while futsal FC Barcelona picked up the ‘Best Team’ award after their great year with League, Champions, Spanish Cup and Super Cup.

The ‘Sportsmanship Award’ went to Juan Carlos Unzué and FC Barcelona for his involvement in the fight against ALS, the ‘Most Projection’ went to the young artistic swimmer Dennis González, world junior solo champion, coach and free and for the pentathlete Laura Heredia, European Under-24 champion, and the ‘Legendary’ one for the ex-athlete Jesús Ángel Garcia Bragado.

Finally, Guillermo Álvarez, president of the Catalan Federation of Underwater Activities, collected the award for ‘Best Federative Management’, and the Catalan Fencing Federation, for its centenary, and the Fundació Unió Esportiva Cornellà, for its promotion of Catalan sport, were awarded with two special mentions.
