MADRID, 18 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) will present this Monday (10:30 am) the tennis player from Alicante David Ferrer as the new captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team, a position in which he replaces Sergi Bruguera.

The former player, winner of the team competition on three occasions (2008, 2009 and 2011), was named last Thursday and will be officially presented at the Higher Sports Council (CSD), where he will be accompanied by the president of the Royal Spanish Federation of Tennis (RFET), Miguel Díaz, and the head of the Council, José Manuel Franco.

‘Ferru’ will be in charge of directing Spain in search of the seventh Salad Bowl, after the end of Bruguera’s stage this week, who took charge of the national team in 2017. The one from Jávea acted as director of the Cup Finals Davis by Rakuten in the last edition of 2022, which crowned Canada in Malaga.

In addition, the man from Alicante received the Davis Award of Excellence in 2019, from the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the International Tennis Hall of Fame. On the other hand, Ferrer has also been director of the Count of Godó of Barcelona since 2019 and during 2020 he was the coach of the German Alenxader Zverev.

As a player, unique for his grit and dedication on the court, ‘Ferru’ won 27 ATP titles and became number three in the world in 2013, spending seven years among the top 10 in the world. The one from Jávea retired in 2019, with his last game at the Mutua Madrid Open.

The 40-year-old tennis player fulfills a recognized dream of being the Spanish captain of the Davis Cup, a tennis World Cup in which he participated in 20 qualifiers with 28 wins and only 5 losses.
