The Real Madrid-Getafe controversy: Benzema’s goal disallowed

It was the first bars of the match between Real Madrid and Getafe when the controversy at the Bernabéu already jumped. Karim Benzema beat David Soria but referee Soto Grado annulled the Frenchman’s offside goal after an assist from Rodrygo. Benzema was clearly ahead but the images shown on television do not clarify whether the ball came from the Brazilian or the Getafe defender. There were no shots that could clarify that circumstance. However, the goal did not go up to the scoreboard. Benzema asked the referee for explanations.

“It is not very clear who hits the ball. They have seen it very quickly… The RFEF shows transparency, that they put that image. From the first move, Benzema cannot be offside because as he does not touch it, it does not interfere with anything”, he analyzed the move in Sports CarouselIturralde González, arbitration analyst for AS and Cadena SER.

For Iturralde González, Federico Valverde had to see a yellow card for an action against a player from the azulón team: “It’s a foul and a warning for Valverde. You can’t go with your elbow to the face. You can’t take a player off with your elbow.”
