The FER Project honors Kim López and other outstanding athletes in 2021

‘The fire is extinguished, the flame is still alive’, motto of a gala attended by 22 athletes

The Trinidad Alfonso Foundation has honored the most outstanding athletes of the Foment d’Esportistes amb Reptes (FER) Project in 2021, in an event held at the La Petxina Sports and Cultural Complex in Valencia, among them the Paralympic athlete Kim López, considered the best after his gold in shot put at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

The foundation, an entity chaired by businessman Juan Roig, has distinguished the components of the FER Project that have obtained brilliant results during 2021, a special course for having hosted the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

On this occasion, there were 22 athletes present at the event, although, as Juan Miguel Gómez, director of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation has pointed out, this recognition “is aimed at each and every one of the 150 members of the FER 2021 by represent the values ​​of improvement and effort that the Foundation tries to spread “.

The chosen slogan was’ The fire is extinguished. The flame is still alive. ‘ Just as, with the conclusion of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the cauldron is turned off, with the end of 2021 the plot thread that has presided over the ERF Project this year is closed: fire.

Last May, during the presentation ceremony of the FER 2021 team, the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation winked and transmitted a message of strength and solidarity to all groups linked to the festivals and traditions of the Valencian Community, a sector particularly punished by the pandemic.

The health crisis has prevented the enjoyment of fire, an element so unique and deeply rooted in the Valencian territory, the athletes must have been in charge of ‘traure el foc’ (take out the fire) in their competitions.

Among the athletes honored have included the six medalists in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games: the cyclist Ricardo Ten, the paratriathlete Héctor Catalá, and the athletes Kim López, Iván Cano, Miriam Martínez and Héctor Cabrera, who recently underwent surgery again from their knee.

Those who obtained a diploma in the Olympic Games were also recognized, such as the long jumper Eusebio Cáceres, the cyclist Sebastián Mora and the field hockey player Lola Riera, or those who achieved medals in major international events such as athletes Jorge Ureña, Claudia Conte, Enrique Llopis and David Cantero; the triathlete Roberto Sánchez Mantecón; the judocas Ana Pérez Box and Julia Figueroa; the taekwondo player Raúl Martínez; basketball player Vega Gimeno, adapted athletes Nagore Folgado and Maurice Eckhard; the young sailor Enrique Seattle Urios.

Also present were the new national handball sensation, Paula Arcos, as well as the young Antonio Torrado (sailor) and Ángela Martínez (swimmer).

In addition, the attendees, athletes, coaches, presidents of Valencian Federations, heads of various sports clubs supported by the Foundation and representatives of the Sports Foundation, chose the best FER athletes of 2021. The award went to Kim López, in recognition of his gold Paralympic in Tokyo, who received the award from Juan Miguel Gómez, director of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation.
