The Fab Five gets back together to support Howard and goes to their first basketball game that Crisler in 30 years.

The Fab Five got back together and went to a basketball game on campus for the first time since they first played together 30 years ago. On Monday, they watched the Wolverines defeat Ohio State 73–65.

Chris Webber as well as Jalen Rose have had disagreements, such as over how to explain the NCAA scandal that caused two Final Five banners to be taken down from the Crisler Center’s ceilings.

It caused childhood friends or college teammates to drift apart. The Detroit natives stopped talking to each other even when they were together.

The fight between Webber and Rose ended in 2021, and the two have recently talked about getting back together.

“I believe Jalen and I needed to work together. He said, “We have.” “There was no other way for it to happen than naturally. That’s why we’re here today to support Juwan.”

They joined forces with Jimmy King as well as Ray Jackson to help Michigan’s basketball coach, Juwan Howard, after he had a major health scare four months after heart surgery and during a five-game lost streak.

Rose said, “C Webb and I agree with each other and are breaking bread as brothers should.” “Juwan deserves this most of all.” “That was an important moment,” Howard said. “I don’t think this will be the last one.”

“If there was one thing that brought us together at the identical time, it was seeing the younger Juwan Howard on a gurney in Ann Arbor, Michigan, before he had open-heart surgery.”

Webber said that the final time he went to a Michigan basketball game at home, he was a rookie in the NBA during the 1993–94 season, while his four old friends had just finished their junior year.

Webber sat on the Michigan bench across from Howard and next to Rose, King, and Jackson on the court. “It’s great having them back,” he said.

Webber had to stay away for a long time. The only time he came back for a game was in 2018 when Jim Harbaugh asked him to attend a football game.

In 2002, the NCAA told Michigan to cut ties with Webber and a few other past players for ten years.

These players were not from the Fab Five, but a government review found that the late Ed Martin gave them over $600,000 as they were still students.

Before the Fab Five seized college basketball by storm in the early 1990s, it was against NCAA rules. They made black socks and loose shorts famous on basketball fields all over the country.

The NCAA blamed the Wolverines for “one of the more egregious infractions to NCAA laws within the history of the organization.” They were not allowed to play in the playoffs for a year, lost their scholarships, and were put on probation.

The 1992 and 1993 Finals Four flags were taken down by Michigan, wrapped in plastic, and put behind a locked door on the bottom shelf inside a narrow cage.

They are now kept there with other items, like Civil War papers, at the school’s history library.

“You might as well get to know them while they’re alive if you’re going to cry at their funeral,” Rose told The Associated Press during halftime.
