The Mallorca Championships, an ATP 250 that makes its debut this year in the grass season, will not be affected by the postponement of Roland Garros, which will be played a week later than planned, from May 30 to June 13. This was confirmed by Edwin Weindorfer, owner of the promoter company EMotion Spain, organizer of the event, through a statement.
The text details that the qualifying phase will be held on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 and from Monday 21 to Saturday 26, the main draw of 28 tennis players in singles and 16 couples in doubles. $ 900,000 in prizes will be distributed on the island.
The Mallorca Championships, which has Toni Nadal as director, was due to debut last year, but was suspended due to the pandemic. It will be the first ATP category competition to be held in this town since 2002. In 2018 and 2019 a WTA tournament was held there, the Mallorca Open.
Stuttgart resists camcellation
The organization of the ATP 250 in Stuttgart, which was scheduled to take place from June 5 to 13 and is also owned by Edwin weindorfer, states that it intends to continue on the same dates. “We still want to keep the Mercedes Cup as the start of the grass season on schedule”said the Teutonic businessman. The organizers of the event in southwest Germany declared themselves “surprised” by the postponement of the Grand Slam in Paris and the consequent overlapping of dates.
