MADRID, 20 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish table tennis team has been eliminated from the World Team Table Tennis Championships, which is being held in Busan (South Korea), after losing this Tuesday on the fourth day of the group stage against India ( 2-3), which was able to overcome the initial 2-0 of the Iberian team.

María Xiao opened the day with a victory against Sreeja Akula (3-1), whom she won with scores of 11-9, 9-11, 13-11 and 11-4. Later, Sofía-Xuan Zhang also managed to win with a comeback against Manika Batra (13-11, 6-11, 8-11, 11-9 and 11-7).

However, luck began to turn on the Indian side from the third duel, in which Elvira Rad lost to Ayhika Mukherjee 2-3 (8-11, 13-11, 8-11, 11-9 and 4-11 ). After that, the defeats of María Xiao against Manika Batra by 0-3 (9-11, 2-11 and 4-11) and of Sofia-Xuan Zhang against Sreeja Akula by 1-3 (6-11, 13-11 , 6-11 and 3-11), confirmed Spain's goodbye.

Despite everything, Spain, which came close to keeping its hopes of qualifying for the Olympic Games alive and went to the World Cup with a young team, left a positive impression, especially with the debut of promising youngsters Elvira Rad and María Berzosa.
