Sonia Bermúdez, new coach of the U-20 and U-19 women

MADRID, 20 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Former international striker Sonia Bermúdez will take the reins of the U-20 women’s teams, current world champion, and U-19, current European champion, filling the gap left by Pedro López, who ended his stage earlier this month to become the new women’s coach of Mexico.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Tuesday a restructuring in its women’s teams, including the promotion of Sonia Bermúdez, 37 years old and who just a month ago had ‘landed’ as the new head of the U-15.

In addition, Javier Lerga, one of Jorge Vilda’s technical assistants in the Absolute, also becomes the new coordinator of the lower women’s teams, while Laura del Río, apart from continuing to lead the U-23, will be in charge of relieve Bermúdez in the Sub-15. Finally, Elena Fernández will be in charge of preparing the goalkeepers of the lower categories.

“These are four people who, despite their youth, have extensive experience in their work and are knowledgeable about the different women’s categories of Spanish football. With this reinforcement of its ‘staff’ and coaching staff, the women’s team generates a powerful structure from the lower categories with the aim of nurturing the senior team with well-prepared talent”, indicated the RFEF.
