Six Spanish promises will be on the NBA ‘Basketball Without Borders’ campus in Malaga

Six Spanish players under 18 years of age will participate in the ‘Basketball Without Borders’ (BWB) Campus of the NBA in Europe, which will take place in Fuengirola (Málaga) from this Friday to June 3, and in which they will be able to learn from stars of the American league, legends of Spanish basketball or assistant coaches active in the NBA.

In total, there will be 60 promising young players from 25 countries throughout Europe and the Middle East who will participate in ‘The Embassy Training Center Higuerón’ in Fuengirola (Málaga) in the twenty-first edition of BWB, which for the third time in history will have place in Spain.

At the campus led by World Basketball Coaches Association President Patrick Hunt and former international scout Marin Sedlacek, the 30 male and female players will be guided through a variety of activities such as fundamental development, fast break situations, three-point contests, and 5-on-5 matches and life and leadership skills development sessions.

Participants on campus will be able to learn from active NBA players such as Devonte Graham (San Antonio Spurs) or Collin Sexton (Utah Jazz), as well as three-time WNBA champion and NBA ambassador Amaya Valdemoro, and former player and coach of Hozono Global Jairis, Endesa Women’s League team, Anna Montañana.

Along with them, assistant coaches active in the American league will also participate, such as Kenny Atkinson (Golden State Warriors), Dutch Gaitley (Sacramento Kings), Popeye Jones (Denver Nuggets) and Joshua Longstaff (Charlotte Hornets), who will serve as BWB Europe coaches. 2024.

The latter, along with members of the NBA’s Referee Operations department, will also lead development clinics for local coaches and referees throughout the week. In addition, more than 60 boys and girls between 8 and 18 years old from the local community will participate in a Jr. NBA clinic this Saturday.

On the last day, a ceremony will be held in which the ‘Kim Bohuny Camp MVP’ awards will be presented, to the best male and female player of the event; ‘the Patrick Baumann Sportsmanship Award’, for the most sporting; the Three-Point Champion, to the best triple jumpers; and the Defensive MVP, to the players who stand out for their defensive skills.

The six Spanish players who will be part of the campus are Leyre Urdiain, already debuting in the Endesa Women’s League with Casademont Zaragoza, Martina Vizmanos Iglesis, Sara Okeke, Alberto Blanco Barazar, Guillermo del Pino Luque and Gildas Giménez Fernández.

BWB Europe 2024 will be supported by Nike, a global partner of BWB since 2002, who will equip participants with Nike clothing and footwear, and Gatorade, which will keep players and coaches hydrated throughout the camp.

BWB, the NBA’s basketball development and community outreach program, has reached more than 4,300 participants from 140 countries and territories since 2001; 119 former BWB campers have gone on to play in the NBA or WNBA. 74 BWB camps have been held in 49 cities in 33 countries on six continents.
