Samitier (Movistar) leaves the Giro with injuries and blows to the face and head

BARCELONA, 13 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Movistar Team cyclist Sergio Samitier had to leave the Giro d’Italia this Friday after falling in the seventh stage, between Diamante and Potenza over 196 kilometers, and suffering blows to the face and head.

“Unfortunately, we have to confirm our first abandonment in the Giro, by Sergio Samitier,” the Spanish team said on their social networks.

Shortly after, they explained that the injuries and blows suffered mainly affected the face and head, “being in any case not serious.” “The Aragonese will undergo tests during the afternoon to assess his condition,” added the Movistar Team.

Samitier, one of the support men to work on behalf of Alejandro Valverde and Iván Ramiro Sosa, was 47th overall in this ‘Corsa Rosa’. He leaves in this seventh stage together with Michael Morkov (Quick-Step), Owain Doull (EF) and Samuele Zoccarato (Bardiani).
