The president of the RFEF recognizes the “brilliant career” of an “unrepeatable” footballer after the announcement of his international retirement
MADRID, 16 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, stated that the player Sergio Busquets is one of the “most important assets of Spanish football”, after the announcement this Friday of the international retirement of the FC Barcelona midfielder.
“Sergio is a silent, serene leader and admired by all for his humility and naturalness. Champion of everything, he has drawn an immense career that is already in the history of football. But there is a more important issue: his human profile. In that, Sergio is also unbeatable. Busquets deserves to decide when and how and our only path is gratitude. Thank you, Sergio, for your dedication and loyalty to the team, you are one of the most important assets of Spanish football”, he commented in statements at the service of RFEF press.
Luis Rubiales stressed that Sergio Busquets is an “iconic figure” in Spanish football, an “exemplary athlete”, an “impeccable professional” and an “undisputed leader”.
“I have known Sergio and his family since he was 11 years old when I shared a dressing room with his father at Lleida. I am united by a great friendship with his parents and sometimes my heart can take away from my words objectivity: I don’t mean it either, Sergio is a player who will transcend generations because of his immense legacy,” he said.
Since 2009, the captain Busquets has been a fundamental piece in the selection. He was international for the first time at the age of 20 and now, at 34, he says goodbye after having been world champion in 2010 and the Eurocup in 2012.
