MADRID, 28 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Roberto Carballés from Tenerife achieved the first victory of the Spanish ‘Armada’ at Roland Garros 2023, the second ‘Grand Slam’ of the season and which is played on clay, while both Pedro Martínez and Nuria Párrizas said goodbye this Sunday in the first round.
Carballés showed solidity to get rid of the American Emilio Nava, a tennis player from the previous phase and whom he defeated in three sets 7-6(), 6-3 and 6-2 in two and a half hours of play. The Spaniard only suffered in the first set, where he had a serve at 5-4 to close it before doing so in the ‘tie-break’, and now he will face the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas who left some doubt in his debut against the Czech Jiri Vesely ( 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6).
For his part, in the men’s draw Pedro Martínez was not so lucky, who after overcoming the previous one could not with the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, despite the fact that he went two sets to one up and ‘break’ up in the fourth before finally falling for 6-4, 2-6, 0-6, 7-5 and 6-3.
Finally, in the women’s draw, Nuria Párrizas could not get the victory in her debut either when she fell against the Australian Storm Hunter, classified from the previous one and who came back from Granada to beat her in three sets 4-6, 2-6, 6 -4.
