Right now Gerard Piqué's only obsession is his right knee. After going through the consultation of surgeon Ramon Cugat and asking for more external opinions from the club on the best therapy to solve his serious injury -a tear of the internal lateral with partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament-, the central made the decision not to have surgery, despite the fact that most specialists, including Cugat himself, recommended that he undergo surgery as the best solution to his injury.

Once the decision to follow the conservative method has been made, Piqué's next step has been to start shock therapy to return as soon as possible, with the aim of cutting if he can the four months that have been predicted that he will be off the pitch.

As AS has learned, if on Wednesday night he made the decision not to have surgery, after visiting Cugat in the morning, on Thursday he would go to the Quirón Clinic to undergo the first round of infiltrations of growth factors in his right knee. This technique consists of centrifuging the patient's own blood to leave only platelets and plasma, which will be infiltrated with several punctures in the affected area in order to regenerate the damaged tissue as soon as possible.

And it is that without an arthroscopy it is impossible to recover a crusader tear, so the goal is to reinforce the medial lateral ligament, in order to stabilize the knee without the help of the anterior cruciate. If this is achieved, the therapy will have been successful and Piqué will be able to return this season to play football. If there is not a correct regeneration or there is not enough stability, Piqué will have to go under the knife.

Dr. Cugat will be in charge of supervising the entire process growth factor therapy. In principle, it will be punctured weekly so that the regeneration is consolidated as soon as possible.

Pique you are aware that you have made a very risky decision which does not guarantee in any case the absolute recovery of the damaged crusader. A decision that could end up marking his career, since at his age – he will turn 34 in February – any major setback can already become a path of no return.
