MADRID, 26 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) approved this Wednesday the proposal of the Los Angeles 2028 organizing committee to include paraclimbing in the program of its Games.

In this way, the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games already have 23 sports on their program, with paraclimbing that will make its debut at the Games. LA2028 received the proposal of 33 sports to be included in the Paralympic program.

In January 2023, the IPC accepted 22 of them, leaving paraclimbing and parasurfing in the chamber, sports that were seeking to debut in the Games. The final evaluation took into account the global and local popularity of the sports, their reach in other major tournaments and the economic viability of the disciplines.

“Congratulations to the International Sport Climbing Federation for the inclusion of Paraclimbing in the LA28 Paralympic Games. Paraclimbing is an exciting and fast-paced sport that I am sure will attract new audiences to the Paralympic Games; just look at the impact of the sport in the Olympic Games program to understand it,” said IPC president Andrew Parsons.

“Paraclimbing will be the fifth new sport on the Paralympic sports program in the last 12 years, underlining the IPC’s desire to keep the Paralympic Games fresh and a showcase for the diversity of the Paralympic movement,” he added.
