Argentine coach Pablo Prigioni became his country’s new absolute basketball coach on Wednesday, a position that he will debut in the AmeriCup and in the next FIBA ​​qualifying ‘windows’ for the 2023 World Cup.

“The Argentine Basketball Confederation announces the arrival of Pablo Prigioni as the new technical director of the men’s senior team,” the CAB wrote in an official statement.

“The coach will have the AmeriCup as his first commitment (September 2-11 in Recife, Brazil), to continue in November and February with the last FIBA ​​World Cup 2023 qualifying windows,” he added.

Prigioni finished his playing career in 2017, wearing the shirt of Baskonia, the club in which he spent the most years. In addition, the Cordovan passed in the Spanish League by Fuenlabrada, Lucentum Alicante and Real Madrid. The Argentine also made a career in the NBA with the Knicks, Houston Rockets and Clippers.

As a coach, Prigioni made his debut on the bench for his Baskonia, an experience that did not go well and ended very soon, with his resignation live at a press conference in October 2017. Later, he was an assistant coach in the NBA with Brooklyn Nets and Minnesota Timberwolves , position that will maintain.

The Argentine international, a member of the ‘golden generation’ that won bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, recognized his new position as a source of pride. “My feeling for the national team is very great, as is my commitment to this group.
