Pablo Casado and García Egea postpone the announcement of their resignation to the meeting with the PP barons on Wednesday

Tuesday afternoon is a hive of rumours. Constant leaks of a possible intervention by Pablo Casado to announce his resignation and that of his general secretary of the PP, Teodoro García Egea. Around half past five in the afternoon, political sources advanced eE that Pablo Casado and Teodoro García Egea would prepare their resignation to announce it this Wednesday, after the meeting with the party barons.

They say that Pablo Casado is devastated, that his dream of reaching Moncloa “has been shattered” and, pressured by a large part of his Executive Committee and the leadership of the Popular Group in the Congress of Deputies, plus the incessant cascade of petitions by part of all kinds of leaders, members and sympathizers, the only path left is resignation. Even before the Extraordinary Congress is convened, which will announce the National Board of Directors convened for next Tuesday.

One of the fundamental questions now is What way out will Casado have to leave with dignity, giving way to a manager, who would be chaired by Ana Pastor, with Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who will prepare the extraordinary Congress from which the new party leadership will emerge.

Apparently, the resistance of Teodoro García Egea could have been one of the reasons why the political crisis has taken so long without being resolved.

Mutiny in Congress

Indeed, the agitation in the ranks of the Popular Party has been a constant since the bomb exploded over the allegedly corrupt contract of Isabel Díaz Ayuso’s brother, about which the Prosecutor’s Office has just opened proceedings. After yesterday’s convulsive Executive Committee -where the party’s submission was blown up, and a large majority urged President Pablo Casado to convene an urgent extraordinary congress-, this Tuesday, a group of deputies, members of the leadership of the Popular Group in Congress, has signed a statement demanding the immediate dismissal, and “not one more day” of the general secretary of the PP, Teodoro García Egea, and the urgent call for an extraordinary Congress. The novelty in this petition is that some of its signatories are faithful squires of Pablo Casado, including Adolfo Suárez and Pablo Hispán.

In this order, and inviting the rest of the deputies and political leaders to join this initiative, the document is signed by Guillermo Mariscal, José Ignacio Echániz, Pablo Hispán, Sandra Moneo, Carlos Rojas, Mario Garcés and Aldolfo Suárez.

First thing in the morning, the deputy Cayetana Alvarez de Toledo insisted on esradio in the tandem resignation of Teodoro García Egea and Pablo Casado, as well as a congress to decide the new future of the Popular Party.

It was him mayor of Madrid, and until a few hours ago spokesman for the Popular Party, who also resigned from this position to dedicate himself entirely to his career in the Madrid town hall. José Luis Martínez Almeida thus cut off his relationship with Genoa, positioning himself on a side far from the leadership. The alderman has fully committed himself to opening any investigation from the council at the request of all political forces.

Another ugly to Ayuso

In the mess of the day, around 11 in the morning, the PP leadership broadcast another meeting scheduled for tomorrow. In this case, the call of the regional presidents at the request of Casado.

It was surprising that in that callIsabel Díaz Ayuso was excluded arguing that “the regional presidents of the PP have been summoned who, in the case of Madrid, who has been summoned is the one who currently chairs the party in the Community, which is Pio Garcia Escudero.

Also by mid-morning it was known that The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has opened investigation proceedings into the mask contract linked to Tomás Díaz Ayuso, brother of the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. As confirmed by sources from the Public Ministry, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office has finally decided to initiate proceedings. Until this Tuesday, Anticorruption has studied the three complaints filed last Friday by PSOE, United We Can and More Madrid in which the emergency contract linked to the brother of the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, was requested to be investigated.

Once this first study was carried out, the Public Ministry considers that there may be criminal significance in the conduct and therefore initiate investigation proceedings. From now on, the possibility is opened that actions such as requirements and declarations can be carried out.

It was yesterday when the president of the Community of Madrid announced that it would be herself the one that would take all the documentation of the controversial contract, to the Prosecutor’s Office. In this sense, Sol sources explained to eE that they expected the Prosecutor’s Office to act in this way, although in Sol they are calm because the president’s actions are clean.

This morning it was also known that Fernando Lopez Mirasthe only PP baron who still supported Casado and García Egea, will ask for an urgent conclave tomorrow to resolve the party’s leadership.

This Tuesday, the deputies also resigned from their positions in the national organization of the Popular Party. Belen Hoyo and Ana Vazquez.

The absence of Aegean

The unknown at noon was whether the president of the PP and his secretary will finally intervene tomorrow in the parliamentary control session, since a question had been changed, according to PP sourcesspecifically the one that Teodoro García Egea was going to formulate about the self-employed, although it seems that his absence is already a fact.

This Tuesday, the PP spokeswoman for the Parliamentary Group, Cuca Gamarra, also did not give the traditional press conference after the celebration of the Board of Spokespersons. The name of the Riojan politician was one of those that came to light on Monday night, as one of the people who also would have demanded Casado the dismissal of Egea and the urgent convening of an extraordinary congress. In that critical group were Belén Hoyo, Javier Maroto, Dolors Montserrat, Ana Pastor, Elvira Rodríguez and Jaime Olano, among others. The mayor of Madrid did not attend the Committee and excused himself with the preparation of the plenary session that was held this Monday at the Madrid City Council.
