Shakhtar Donetsk announced the death as a result of a Russian attack on a coach of their youth teams. This was communicated by the executive director of said club, Sergei Palkin, on Facebook and called for the end of the war. “Each of you will be guilty,” Palkin wrote on Facebook, referring to Russian citizens.

The number of civilian deaths in Ukraine has risen daily since the Russian invasion of the country began. Shakhtar Donetsk reported that the coach’s death was due to being hit by shrapnel from a Russian grenade.

“Russia, you are killing Ukrainians. Stop this madness! Do not shut up, say no!” wrote Sergei Palkin. “This is a defeat that will not be erased from world history. And each one of you will be held accountable and answerable for the crimes you commit.”

More people related to sports in Ukraine have died since the war began. Yevgeny Malyshev, 19, who competed for the country in biathlon at the junior level, was killed in a battle outside Kharkiv. On the other hand, two footballers died.
