Olivia Smart and Adrián Díaz achieve a historic ticket for the Olympics

The couple formed by Olivia Smart and Adrián Díaz won this Saturday a historic ticket for the Winter Olympic Games to be held in Beijing after signing the fourth position in the European Figure Skating Championships on Ice, which is held until this Sunday in Tallinn.

Olivia Smart and Adrián Díaz, who had an advantage of more than 10 points over Sara Hurtado and Kirill Jalyavin, the other Spanish couple in the competition, achieved it with the best position in history for a national duo and broke Spain’s dance records free and total accumulated, respectively (118.87 and 196.86 points).

In this way, Olivia and Adrián will be in charge of representing Spain in Beijing for an appointment that begins on February 4 thanks to their outstanding performance on the chords of ‘The Fencing Lesson’, the mythical soundtrack that James Horner composed for the movie: ‘The Mask of Zorro’.

His score was just over 13 points compared to Sara Hurtado and Kirill Jalyavin, who finished in sixth place with 191.90 points. The two good performances will allow Spain to have three places for next year’s edition in this discipline.

It will be the first time that Olivia Smart attends an Olympic event, while Adrián Díaz will repeat after competing in Sochi 2014 alongside Sara Hurtado. In addition, Spain has also qualified for Beijing Laura Barquero and Marco Zandron, who finished ninth last Thursday in the pairs category.

The gold medal went to the Russian tandem made up of Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov, who reached 217.96 points, while the second position belonged to their compatriots Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin (213.20) and the bronze went to the Italians Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri (207.97).
