Juan Ayuso becomes the leader in Romandía after the individual time trial

MADRID, 26 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish cyclist Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) took the lead in the 77th edition of the Tour de Romandie this Friday after being fourth in the individual time trial of the third stage.

The day, held in Oron (Switzerland) on a 15-kilometer route, left Ayuso’s teammate Brandon McNulty victorious, with the American’s time of 20:06. Ayuso entered at 21 seconds behind and took the lead ahead of an intense penultimate stage over 151 kilometers between Sailion and Leysin.

The time trial was marked by the rain that appeared halfway through the stage and that prevented many runners from competing for victory. McNulty was favored by the dry asphalt, but the Spaniard didn’t care about the arrival of the water, flying to the top of the provisional general classification.

Ayuso, who started the day 27 seconds behind the winner on Thursday, the Belgian Thibau Nys (Lidl-Trek), will defend his first position on the queen stage. Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal-QuickStep) and Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora-Hansgrohe) are second and third at seven and ten seconds.
