Mateu Lahoz will referee the final of the Champions League that will face Manchester City against Chelsea on Saturday 29 May in Porto, at 9 pm.
This was announced this Wednesday by the UEFA Referees Committee. In the end, Mateu Lahoz will count with the assistance of compatriots Pau Cebrián Devis and Roberto Díaz Pérez del Palomar, while another Spanish, Carlos del Cerro Grande, will be the fourth official.
The role of a video assistant referee (VAR) has been assigned to Alejandro José Hernández Hernández (Spain), and will be accompanied by compatriots Juan Martínez Munuera and Íñigo Prieto López de Cerain. Paweł Gil (Poland) completes the VAR lineup.
Mateu lahoz will take over his first Champions League final, having been the fourth official in the 2019 final between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, played in Madrid.
Remember that Mateu Lahoz has starred in some ‘collision’ with Pep Guardiola, City coach, one of the protagonists of the final.
The one that raised the most dust came in the 2018 quarter-final tie where City were eliminated by Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. Guardiola was expelled when approaching the referee, as soon as the first half finished. He reproached him for the annulled goal of Sané was legal.
