NBA Christmas Day numbers and data

This Monday the 25th, Christmas Day, the NBA celebrates its traditional 'Christmas Day', with five games played. We take advantage of this unique date to remember some numbers and data that this date has left since it began to be played back in 1947.

1. Three of the five clashes, Nuggets-Warriors, Heat-Sixers and Suns-Mavericks, are unprecedented on this Christmas Day.

2. The Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics will meet for the first time on this date since 2008 and for the third time since 1960, the year in which the Los Angeles franchise moved to its current location from Minneapolis.

3. The New York Knicks have played the greatest number of games on 'Christmas Day' with a total of 55.

4. The last four NBA champions will be in action: Lakers (2020), Bucks (2021), Warriors (2022) and Nuggets (2023).

5. LeBron James is the leader today in points (460) and games
played (17) and the co-leader in wins along with Dwyane Wade (10).

6. The Christmas scoring record goes to Bernard King, who scored 60 points for the Knicks against the New Jersey Nets in 1984. Wilt Chamberlain has the best mark in rebounds (36 in 1961); Guy Rodgers and Nate Archibald in assists (18 in 1966 and 1972, respectively); DeAndre Jordan in blocks (8 in 2011); and Kyrie Irving in steals (7 in 2016).

7. Tracy McGrady has the highest scoring average on this day
with 43.3 points per game and was able to score at least 40 points in each of his three games.

8. The Heat have the highest winning percentage among active teams on Christmas Day with an 11-2 record and are undefeated under Erik Spoelstra (8-0).

9. Nine players have recorded a triple-double on Christmas Day: Oscar Robertson (4), Russell Westbrook (2), John Havlicek, Billy Cunningham, LeBron James, Draymond Green, Kemba Walker, James Harden and Nikola Jokic.

10. Nobody has won as many times on Christmas as the Lakers, who have done it 24 times, one more than the Knicks. At the coaching level, Phil Jackson and Jack Ramsay share the record for most wins with 11.
