More than 10,000 base soccer players participate from this Friday in MADCUP 2022

The tournament is held until June 29 at the Ciudad Deportiva Wanda Atlético de Madrid in Alcalá de Henares

More than 10,000 children participate from this Friday until June 29 in the MADCUP 2022 youth soccer tournament, in the male and female categories, whose headquarters is the Wanda Sports City of Atlético de Madrid, in the Madrid town of Alcalá de Henares.

This tournament unites sport, tourism, culture and education and has the collaboration of the Community of Madrid, which sponsors the competition with 363,000 euros, the Atlético de Madrid Academy and the Royal Madrid Football Federation.

In this year’s edition, participation has increased by 50 percent compared to 2021. On this occasion, 600 teams compete, of which 300 are from Madrid, 150 from other communities and 150 foreigners. More than 1,400 matches will be played in the sub-8 to sub-16 categories, in the men’s field, and sub-12, sub-14 and sub-16 in the case of the women’s competition.

The preliminary phase of the match schedule begins this Friday and will run until Sunday 26. The tie will be played between Monday 27 and Tuesday 28, and the finals on June 29. In addition, on the 27th, the parade of all the participating children and their families will take place on the lawn of the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.


This initiative aims to become in a few years the most important international tournament of its kind in the world. It has already been recognized within the 2020 Plan Program to Help Base Sports II, of the Higher Sports Council, with the consideration of an event of exceptional public interest.

In addition, it has been included in the agenda of the World Tourism Organization as an outstanding event for its driving action to strengthen sport and tourism within the Community.

The MADCUP project aims to promote quality family tourism, in its objective of transmitting culture and values ​​through sport. In this sense, the attendance of more than 18,000 relatives of soccer players and more than 100,000 spectators is expected, which represents a significant economic boost for the Henares Corridor and for the region as a whole.
