Modric's second youth

Modric lives a second youth at the age of 35. Since football was resumed after confinement, the Croatian has exhibited an outstanding level that he also maintains in this new season. Against Levante, he was Real Madrid's most accurate midfielder: 48 good passes in 54 attempts. That represents an 88.9% effectiveness, above Casemiro's 80.4% and Valverde's 81.4%. Those shipments almost always carried judgment and danger (up to three scoring chances led to the Madrid player's '10'). To this good performance in the offensive phase he added a great defensive implication: he recovered five balls with a 100% success rate in the innings he made. He played 89 minutes and was replaced by Isco.

This good form comes to him at a decisive moment in his career: he is facing his last year of contract with Real Madrid. From January 1, 2021, he will be free to negotiate with any club, because on June 30 of that same year his relationship with the Madridistas ends. However, the Croatian has always ensured that his harmony with the club is total: if he feels useful and Zidane wants him to continue, they will reach an agreement.

In addition, there are two major challenges on the horizon: the 2021 Eurocup and the 2022 World Cup. He knows that they will be his last two great national team tournaments (he would play the World Cup when he was 37 years old) and that is why he is taking maximum care of his physique, as shown by the performance he is offering with 35 years.

Zidane, for his part, has Modric among his untouchables. The Frenchman is clear that as long as he maintains this level he wants to continue counting on him, so it is very likely that he will ask the club for an effort to continue for another year if Luka's performance continues to be the current one. Key months are coming to make a decision …
