Mo Katir lifts Spain to sixth place in the European team

MADRID, 24 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish record holder of 1500 meters, Mohamed Katir, achieved this Saturday the second victory of Spain in the second day of the European Team Championship that is being held in the Polish town of Chorzów, raising the team to sixth provisional place.

Katir fulfilled his favoritism and waited for his moment to storm the head of the race with two laps to go and achieve gold with a great time of 3:36.95, which is a championship record, which had lasted since 2014 (the Czech Jakub Holusa ).

The appointment framed in the European Games also left two other Spanish metals, the bronze of Quique Llopis and another of the women’s 4x100m relay at the Stadion Slaski. The Valencian, who was returning to the national team three and a half months after his hard fall in the European final on the Indoor Track in Istanbul, once again demonstrated his potential and was second in his final (13.44).

Likewise, speed showed its great moment with the women’s relay made up of Carmen Marco, Paula García, Paula Sevilla and Jaël-Sakura Bestué, the same one who a few weeks ago had run in the Diamond League in Paris in 42.99 (the fourth best mark in the history). The quartet flew back to third with a time of 43.13 (seventh best ever).

For its part, the men’s 4×100, with Arnau Monné, Sergio López, Pablo Montalvo and Bernat Canet, finished in fourth position (fifth overall) with a great mark of 38.83, which also means the best of a Spanish team in this competition. Spain climbed two positions in the general this Saturday after going eighth on Friday.
