Miñambres: “We are better than before January, we missed the icing on Cervi”

The sports director of the Celta Vigo, Felipe Miñambres, considers that his team is “more balanced” than before the transfer market in January, despite the fact that they have not finally been able to close the hiring of the Argentine midfielder Franco Cervi, for which, according to advance, they will bid again next summer.

“We reinforced the positions we wanted to bring, missing the icing on Cervi. We are better, more balanced. We have brought in three good players and two have left. The market I cannot say that it was perfect, but it was good in sports and very good economically, “he said.

In this sense, the head of the sports area stressed that they tried “until the last minute” to finalize the signing of the Benfica footballer, but his good performances with the Portuguese team in recent weeks caused his situation to change.

“Cervi was a player who did not count for Benfica and the situation was changing due to the positives of many players. He had to play, even as a winger, he scored a goal, he did it well and that complicated everything because he went from being a player they didn't have to a player they have, “he explained.

Miñambres also clarified why they did not look for another player in the market when they found Benfica's refusal: “We were certain that the player was Cervi. It is not easy to replicate Cervi due to his characteristics and the use that the coach intended to make of him. It was Cervi or Cervi ”.

The celestial sports director regretted the departure of the Uruguayan side Lucas Olaza, which he blamed on a lack of “agreement” with Boca Juniors because the club had the player.
