The 102nd absolute Spanish Outdoor Championship started this Friday in a double session that left the first six finals, which rose in Nerja (Málaga) to Laura García-Caro, in the 10,000 meter walk; Laura Redondo and Javier Cienfuegos, in hammer; Maialen Axpe, on pole; Belén Toimil, in weight, and Sebastián Martos, in 3,000 obstacles.

The morning session that opened the action on the Enrique López Cuenca track in Nerja left the first two national titles for Laura García-Caro and Laura Redondo, in the 10,000 meter walk and hammer. The woman from Huelva dominated the race from the second kilometer, capable of doubling all of her rivals except Raquel González and just barely.

Meanwhile, the national hammer record holder, the Barcelonan Laura Redondo, revalidated the title obtained last year in Getafe, third in a row and fourth in total, although she could not make another record (69.39), she came from four in 13 days, in search of the minimum for the World Cup in Oregon (United States) in three weeks.

In the afternoon the national titles continued to fall. For Cienfuegos it was his twelfth, the great goal, although he was not completely satisfied with the technique. With 73.99, the national record holder triumphed in Nerja, although far from his 2022 mark of 76.79, fulfilling his favoritism in an afternoon of favorites.

Malen Ruiz de Azua achieved his first absolute title after hanging the bronze in the Ibero-American and making the best Spanish mark of the year in Pamplona (4.45). With that same mark, the Championship record, the Basque took her thorn away against her countrywoman Malen Ruiz de Azua.

Meanwhile, Martos took a 3,000 obstacles marked by the beautiful final fight with Daniel Arce, a straight in which the two gave everything. Equality was assured with three athletes under 8:20, but Arce, national leader of the year, was left with honey on his lips before Martos’ fifth title.

In weight, the Spanish and championship record holder, Belén Toimil, started without a rival and also fulfilled her favoritism to achieve her third title in a row, with 17.80, well above Mónica Borraz (15.98) and Ane Torres ( 14.05).
