Laporta: “I understand the winning project with Xavi as coach”

“Xavi transmits enthusiasm, confidence and generosity, Barcelona fans can be proud”

BARCELONA, 25 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, assured that he was satisfied with the continuity of Xavi Hernández as coach of the men’s first team and explained that the agreement left the entire Board of Directors and the sports commission happy, and that personally the current project, which he considers that he is a winner, I only understood it with the one from Terrassa on the bench.

“I understand the winning project with Xavi as coach. I told Xavi that we would not do anything about looking for a coach until the end of the season, to see how it would end. Many things could happen,” he said at a press conference. “I have always wanted Xavi to continue and he knows it,” he added.

“I have a lot of affinity with that all this is going very well. When we greeted each other, we were clear that we had to continue,” the president said honestly.

Laporta believes that Xavi has gained a lot of experience this season, as has the Board. “We have to draw positive conclusions, of which there are many, from this season. That is why we have not spoken with any other coach. Because if he still had the intention of leaving, the new coach would have to wait until the end of the season. We did not speak with any coach waiting for Xavi to rethink it,” he said.

“The final conclusion is to continue believing in the project for Barcelona, I am left with the confirmation that as the first team coach we have an extraordinary person with exceptional knowledge of football and a ‘culer’ feeling that transmits enthusiasm, confidence and generosity. Barcelona fans can be proud of the coach we have,” explained an excited Laporta, hugged at that moment by Xavi.

Thus, Laporta was “satisfied” for being able to confirm Xavi’s continuity. “You know that he made some statements in the middle of the season that he had considered leaving at the end of the season, but yesterday I had the good news. Xavi conveyed to me the enthusiasm he has for the project, the confidence he has in the team, the ambition he has to do a project that has already won and that must continue to win, now being more competitive because adjustments and changes will be made to improve,” he assured.

“This ambition and confidence, from the first moment we saw each other yesterday, was good news for Barça. And we add that I think that stability is a very important value in successful projects, for me it is a maxim and it has made me past in my time as president. There is another reason that I must express, Xavi is undeniably Barça-loving. When we see that we have a coach who always looks out for the interest of Barça and thinks about the best for Barça, I was very clear about it. It is very good news that Xavi continues,” he said.

For Laporta, stability is the key to everything. “The team we have, which is being consolidated with very young people, combined with people with a certain experience, needs this stability. And Xavi, in addition to giving stability, because we are halfway through the project, gives a reference to these young people. I am especially happy because what we wanted has happened. The Board, unanimously, has supported this decision. At home we were able to speak with him, and everyone congratulated him,” he added.

But the Blaugrana president assured months ago that losing would have consequences under his mandate. This Thursday it was explained. “Losing has consequences and these will be the changes that Deco and project and that there are young people who have emerged thanks to the sports structure and the coach’s courage. There is confidence and ambition. The consequence of losing does not have to be something drastic, it will be adjustments that will occur. I maintain consistency but I am not going to. give pleasure to those who want to blow everything up. Because this project has the living flame to continue growing,” he added.

“We are convinced that this project will be even better. We have already won a Super Cup and a League that I would describe as historic, in times of drought and maximum difficulty. Xavi had the courage to assume that responsibility. We Barcelona fans have memory, it is a project that started out winning, this year the desired objectives were not achieved, but we are all convinced that this is the best decision, it gives stability to the institution and the project, which will be even more winning, Barcelona fans believe in this project because it is worth the effort. It is a shame and it is a pride to have a coach with the human quality and Barcelona values that Xavi Hernández has,” he added.

On the other hand, he assured that it has never been a question of money. “It has not been a question of money, it has been something institutional and sporting. Stability, emotion and continuity have been key. Xavi, on the issue of money, has behaved with absolute Barcelona dignity, without greed. The economic issue was not It was a condition of no kind,” he explained.

Regarding the club’s economic situation, he commented that they continue fighting, encouraged by LaLiga, to have the situation at 1-1 to have more options to sign in the summer. “LaLiga has made it easier for us through the efforts of the Board to reduce the sports wage bill to levels that LaLiga values the effort. We are pushing for some advanced options to finish coming out to achieve the 1-1 relationship. It will be them (commission sports) who decide what can be reinforced and how. But the club is recovering financially,” he celebrated.
