The Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo and the Kenyan Beatrice Chebet, current world cross country champions, have not failed to their favoritism and have won this Sunday in the 19th edition of the Atapuerca International Cross Country (Burgos), which took place in adverse weather conditions. strong gusts of wind and rain.

In the 9,000-meter test held on the permanent circuit of the Atapuerca mountain sites, Kiplimo hunted down the Kenyan Ronald Kwemoi, who had taken the lead after a good start, surpassed the first third of the race, and on the penultimate lap managed to get rid of it.

Thus, he crossed the finish line with a time of 26:00, 15 seconds ahead of Kwemoi, while Burundian Rodrigue Kwizera completed the podium. In this way, Kiplimo wins his second victory in Atapuerca after the one achieved in 2018.

In the women’s event, the victory went to the Kenyan Beatrice Chebet, who completed first, with a time of 25:20, the 8,000 meters that made up the race and managed to defend her title as champion of the Burgos event.

Ugandan Sarah Chelangat finished second and Kenyan Edinah Jebitok took third place. Majida Maayouf, seventh, was the best Spanish finisher (27:07), while Marta García was tenth (28:05); Irene Sánchez-Escribano and Carolina Robles finished eleventh and twelfth, both clocking 28:11; and María Forero, thirteenth (28:14).
