Jovic's curse

Jovic doesn't lift his head. He comes out of a hole to get into another and, a year and a half after signing for Real Madrid, he does not seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel. This season started with minutes, with Zidane giving importance ahead of Mayoral, who ended up leaving for Roma. But he did not take advantage of those minutes to score and the substitutions arrived and, what is worse, the injuries. He first caught COVID-19 upon his return from the Serbian national team; and now, with the disease just overcome, he has fallen muscle.

The Serbian did not exercise this Tuesday with the rest of his teammates in Valdebebas, in training prior to Borussia's visit to Valdebebas (vital to know if Madrid can continue or not in the Champions League). Shortly after, the club issued a statement: “Tendinosis of the adductor muscles of the right leg”.

An injury that, according to Dr. José González, a medical specialist at AS, will take him out for two to three weeks and will probably make him miss all that remains of 2020: “Tendinosis means that the tendon has degenerated. Tendinitis is inflammation, teninosis is a partial tear of tendon fibers. Between two and three weeks off “.

Zidane is left with only one center forward (Mariano is also injured) for this demanding final stretch of 2020, in which Madrid must play up to six games between now and the end of the year. He will probably have Hugo Duro, Castilla striker, for that whole stretch in which he does not have a relief for Benzema. Jovic was the player called to take advantage of the minutes that the French did not enjoy, but so far he has only been able to play 208 'so far this year.

Mariano has already surpassed him

He enjoyed three starts at the beginning of the year that he did not know how to take advantage of and then COVID-19 stopped him cold when it seemed he could start to wake up. ANDn the last national team break, in November, he left great sensations with Serbia: three goals and two assists in three games. But contagion prevented him from having opportunities just when Benzema was injured as well, which would have opened the doors wide for him. Mariano was the only remaining option and he took advantage of his moment: he scored in Vila-real.

This irregular step joins his first year in white, in the 2019-20 season, which was very disappointing and marked by controversy: he fought with his coach, Tumbakovic; he skipped the quarantine to go to Belgrade; invited a friend from his country to Madrid and it turned out that he was infected by COVID-19 … To which he added a very poor sports performance for the 60 million that Real Madrid paid for him: two goals in just over 800 minutes.
