Iván Romeo wins silver in the online test of the European Under 23

MADRID, 23 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish cyclist Iván Romero was proclaimed runner-up of the European Under-23 Championship this Friday in the online test of the event being held in the Netherlands, after riding the entire race in escape alongside Henrik Pedersen.

Romeo sealed a high-level summer with a continental silver where he was eighth in the online event at the Glasgow World Championships, stage winner in the Tour del Porvenir and fourth in the CRI.

The Spaniard was in the breakaway of the day along with the Dane and the Polish Gajdulewicz, with a good understanding between the three to keep the peloton away in the final circuit. Romeo took a chance with Pedersen, who was stronger in the last lap to be first.

“I am very happy with this European Championship. I have been fourth in the time trial and second in line, although they are the two positions that make me most angry for being so close to the podium and the victory, but I am still very happy. We had talked before about “I started that I had to take the break, I was prepared for it, it was difficult, there were fans, but I managed it,” said the Pucelano cyclist in statements provided by the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC).

“The pity is that there were only three of us, I thought there would be more of us and we had to do a great job to avoid being caught by the peloton. Even with 10 km to go I thought I could overtake Pedersen, but in the final stretch I “The energy has run out, I started with cramps and it has simply been stronger than me,” he added.
