Italian referee Daniele De Santis is stabbed to death

Tragedy in Italy. The Italian referee Daniele De Santis, 33-year-old referee of the Lega Pro (Series C), has been stabbed to death along with his couple, Eleonora Manta (30 years), in his Lecce address, as reported by ‘La Repubblica’ on Tuesday.

The causes that led to the fatal stabbing are currently uncertain. Alerted by the notices of the neighbors, the police officers showed up at the scene and could only observe the inert bodies of the couple, of the first one on the stairs of the apartment complex and that of the young woman inside the house. The author of the double murder is sought, located at the scene by several witnesses.

De Santis began his career in professional refereeing in 2017 debuting in B series as fourth official in a match between Pisa and Benevento, and his colleagues wanted to show their pain at the tragedy. “I am shocked. We still know very little about the case. What I can say is that we are in close contact with the family and with all the people of the association, “he said. De Santis refereed about 130 games in the C series and D series and it had a great projection. This Wednesday, in fact, he had to referee the match of the Coppa from Italy between Monopoli and Modena.
