Independent is already in quarters

Independiente del Valle tied goalless on their visit to Lanus this Thursday and achieved its classification to the quarterfinals of the South American Cupby asserting the 2-1 victory achieved in the first leg.

Although Lanús tried to tie the series throughout the game, Independiente del Valle resisted all the attempts of the local team and, despite playing with one less player from minute 48 due to the expulsion of Jonatan Bouman, Ecuador took the passport to the next tie.

In the first quarter of an hour there was an action that could have changed the history of the match because the Chilean referee Cristian Garay, at the request of the VAR, annulled a goal scored by Maximiliano González due to the advanced position of striker José Sand.

It was Sand himself who had his option with a ball hitting the area but his header was not accurate and ended up in the hands of goalkeeper Wellington Ramírez.

At the beginning of the second half, in the 48th minute, referee Garay expelled Jonatan Bauman, from the visit, for an infraction against Matías Pérez.

From that moment on, Lanús tried to rotate the relays with the arrivals of Claudio Spinelli, Julián Aude and Franco Orozco at the end, but Jorge Almirón’s team was unable to break the resistance of the Ecuadorian club due to inexperience in the definition and the great performance of goalkeeper Ramirez.

El Garnet reiterated with frontal and lateral centers in search of a saving header that never came and the team led by Martín Anselmi advanced to the quarterfinals where they will face Deportivo Táchira, who has just given the great blow of the contest to eliminate Santos on penalties in Brazil.
