Girona rules the League and Athletic cannot beat Getafe

Míchel’s men, leaders with a 1-2 over Villarreal

San Mamés goes crazy (2-2) with those from Bordalás, expelled in another long stoppage time

MADRID, 27 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Girona became the leader of LaLiga EA Sports after the seventh matchday by beating Villarreal (1-2) this Wednesday, another exhibition by Míchel’s team with a comeback in La Cerámica, while Athletic Club could not (2-2) with a Getafe that upset San Mamés and ended with José Bordalás sent off.

The Girona team, recently promoted to the top category, continues with its revelation start to lead alone in the table, after Barça’s draw on Tuesday in Mallorca. Despite Real Madrid’s victory over UD Las Palmas, Girona is the leader with 19 points, compared to 18 for the whites and 17 for the azulgranas.

Míchel’s men are still without a roof and, at the home of a ‘Submarino’ in need of joy, they were able to come back and dominate in the second half. The locals, with Pacheta unable to establish his ideas in the yellow team, converted a penalty at the beginning of the second half through Parejo, after reaching the break better in an open first half and chances for both.

Like last Sunday, and as a reflection of the arrival of Pacheta, Villarreal’s joy was short-lived, increasingly further away from the European positions. In the 56th minute, after a great cross from Savio, Artem Dovbyk made it 1-1 and, in the 61st minute, Eric García also made it 1-2 with a header. The bleeding in the lateral centers could have cost the local team the victory, with Stuani on the lookout.

Meanwhile, Athletic Club and Getafe had an intense duel in San Mamés, where Juanmi Latasa’s 2-2 result left the distribution of points that does not allow the Basques to reinforce their Champions League zone, while the Madrid players remain in the middle of board.

The Basque team managed to go into the break ahead with a great goal from Yuri in the 6th minute, and also had good chances from De Marcos and Guruzeta. Ernesto Valverde’s men did not hesitate to follow the line of La Catedral, intense and with a goal, but a red card to Sancet for a harsh tackle complicated the script. ‘Geta’ pushed hard after the restart and their step forward was soon rewarded with a goal from Gastón.

However, Athletic found Iñaki Williams on a roll this start of the campaign, who scored his fourth goal with quality to make it 2-1. The local problem was the half hour that remained ahead, in inferiority against a rival who looked for the goal. Maksimovic hit the crossbar and found it in Latasa. The closing was the expulsion of Bordalás, with the locals pointing out waste of time by a Getafe that continues to be the team of long discounts.
