Fuel prices fall after oil falls 30%

The price of fuel at service stations is beginning to give consumers a slight break. The price of oil has already accumulated a fall of close to 30% in just eight days and this decline, albeit slowly, has already begun to be felt at service stations.

The strong rise and fall of oil is causing enormous volatility in service stations depending on their level of purchases. Gas stations are registering levels never seen before with increases of up to 34 cents per liter or discounts of up to 40 cents at some outlets.

The dispersion of prices has reached such an extreme that, according to Aesae -the employer of automatic gas stations-, it ranges between 9 and 25 cents, increasing the minimum registered last January. Barcelona is the province where consumers can save the most when choosing the station, since the average difference is 25 cents in gasoline and 21.4 cents in diesel (between automatic and traditional gas stations).

The Catalan province is followed by León, which presents a difference between seasons of 21 cents in both gasoline and diesel. Regarding gasoline, Catalonia is the Community that presents the greatest differences, since, in addition to Barcelona, all its provinces (Lleida (20 cent.), Girona (19.9 cent.) and Tarragona (19.6 cent.) They are among the five in the country with the greatest price difference.

As for diesel, the provinces with the greatest difference are Barcelona and León (21.4 cent.), followed by Guadalajara (19.8 cent.), Guipúzcoa (19.4 cent.), Vizcaya (19.3 cent. .) and Jaén (19.3 cent.).

From Aesae they point out that, given this rise in prices, automatic gas stations exert competitive pressure that helps to curb the rise. What’s more, “a direct relationship continues to be appreciated between the competition exerted by traditional gas stations and, specifically, automatic ones, with the price of fuel. In the case of Catalonia, where the presence of this type of station exceeds 20%, we find that the difference is very high”, explains Manuel Jiménez Perona, president of Aesae.

On the other hand, the provinces with the lowest fluctuation in gasoline prices are Salamanca and Zamora (9 cent.) and Cuenca (10.7 cent.). And in diesel, they are Las Palmas (9 cent.), Zamora and Salamanca (10 cent.).

The International Road Transport Association (Astic) and the Spanish Confederation of Service Station Employers (CEEES) urge the Government to arbitrate a reduction of taxation on fuels that are consumed in our country, temporarily and extraordinary.

France announces a discount of 15 cents per liter, without touching taxes

From Aesae they urge the Executive to reduce the taxes that present fuels with the aim of helping Spanish companies and families to combat rising prices in the sector.

In this way, the Association asks that Spain be part of those countries that, like Poland, have lowered gasoline taxes such as diesel or France, which has announced a reduction of 15 cents per liter -without touching taxes- to help its citizens and their companies in the energy crisis we are experiencing.
