Font offers himself to the club to help in the signing of Eric García

Víctor Font held his first press conference this Thursday as an official candidate of FC Barcelona. Font took advantage of his appearance to insist on the need to postpone the January 24 elections, “The right of all partners is not protected; they will not be able to bypass the municipal confinement to go to vote ”, announced the suspension of his campaign events for this Friday, “We have already started putting the wheel sticks because the electoral campaign is cut in one day”, and asked the rest of the candidates to agree on forces to help the club, “especially in the signing of Eric García and to seek liquidity in the club for the next two months ”.

In fact, Tusquets has summoned the three candidates for a meeting this Friday afternoon with the aim of discussing the postponement of the elections and the steps to be taken in the short term: “It will not be a government with four heads, but the candidates can help. The Manager will continue to have its functions. But if we can help the club, we will. Laporta and I have contacts with City and we can find an imaginative formula to sign Eric García. We also have to look for liquidity solutions in the club with an insurance policy, for example ”.

Regarding the need to postpone the elections, “and be above party interests,” he was restrictive: “We are the least suspected of seeking a more democratic process with greater participation. The right to vote must be guaranteed. Since last August we have asked for a change in the club's government, since the debacle in Lisbon. We were one of the promoters of the motion. We ask for the resignation of Bartomeu and the board. We sent a letter to the Manager to work on a different voting system due to the pandemic. We already know that electronic voting is not legal, but voting by mail is not legal in Barcelona. I know that the Manager has made some movement in this regard, at least on the issue of voting by mail. We are now in the middle of the third wave of the pandemic and it appears that the right to vote will not be guaranteed on January 24. We have 40,000 partners over 60 years old, with a high risk factor. On the 24th there will still be municipal restrictions, so the people will not leave home to vote ”.

Regarding the vehemence with which Laporta defends that the elections take place on the scheduled date, he explained that “What Laporta says or what I can say is irrelevant”, since “the experts are the ones who rule in this type of decision”. He also recalled that “The club does not have to protect a candidate but the members. If this right is not protected, the club is dead ”.

Font insisted on the need to implement electronic voting or at least vote by mail to encourage participation: “We will propose that the Manager work to find complementary methods to vote, such as voting by mail. Rethink electronic voting. The Government has told me that they would be willing to make an urgent decree law to solve it.
