First draft of the Second Division B groups 2020-21

The Second Division B 2020-21 begins to roll after the final promotions of Linares, Alcoyano, Marino and Lealtad de Villaviciosa. Thus, the date remains an unknown, such as the protocol or the final format, but proposals are already beginning to be made for the division of the groups. You are, as always, are based on geographic proximity. This year, except for surprise, there will not be five groups of twenty, but ten subgroups of ten teams each, with two of them with eleven due to rescheduling at 102 clubs.

The first sketch has already come to light, advanced by Ángel García Álvarez and to which AS has also had access. It is not final, but only one of the proposals that is handled. In distribution, there is only one territorial federation that sees its clubs divided into two different groups: Balearic Islands. Of course, that the same Autonomous Community has clubs in two different subgroups is the most common. It should be remembered that this newspaper had access to the model that was being considered for the new Second B, which concluded in three different phases in which the classification was achieved based on the results of these subgroups. Promotion to LaLiga SmartBank, Second B Pro and permanence would be at stake.

Possible format of the Second B 2020-21

ACE has been talking about the innovative format that the bronze division will adopt, with some details yet to be confirmed. The RFEF, as already confirmed, divide the category into five groups of twenty (it remains to be seen what will happen to the two positions already assigned), which, in turn, will be divided into ten subgroups of ten. In them, a hectic round trip of 18 matches per club will be played to decide, based on the results of these, how the following subgroups are formed, than will be in which promotions, demotions and permanence are decided. The best three from each of the subgroups will have the right to play an intermediate phase to achieve promotion to Second Division. LThe top thirty would be divided after the first phase into five new subgroups of six teams each. The best three of each of them (a total of 15) would play the traditional promotion phase together to the best room of the five subgroups mentioned.

Unlike other years, the so-called route of champions would disappear. In other words, the leaders of these subgroups would not have a double chance. However, the RFEF is studying possible advantages for the first classified. After the dispute of that kind of Playoff, the four teams that return to professional football would be known. The defeated of that Playoff, the four relegations from LaLiga SmartBank and those not classified for the promotion phase Yes, belonging to the subgroups of the best, they would form the Second Division B Pro of the 21-22 season.

Ten promotions left

More accounts: 12 playoff losers, plus four relegations, plus the 14 worst of the subgroups of the best make up 30 teams. That is to say, 10 promotions to the new Segunda B Pro are still pending. These will come out of the second subgroup formed after the dispute of the first phase. This will be made up of a total of 40 teams: the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh classified of the ten starting subgroups. The format that is being considered right now from the RFEF, and that could still undergo tweaks, is a kind of Cup, in which 10 would go up to what will be a new bronze category. Other recognitions are also studied for those who do not achieve it.

The descent to Third

The three worst teams from each of the ten initial subgroups would play each other, in the absence of knowing the format, the relegation phase to Third Division. This, in addition, is more important than ever, since all its participants would already be descending a level for the season in question. As there is a Second B Pro, the Second B would become the fourth category of Spanish football and the Third Division, the fifth.

This will be the Second Division B of the 2020-21 season

INITIAL PHASE

-Ten subgroups of ten. It remains to be seen how they would be distributed with the 102 teams in which the category finally remains.

-The best three of each go to the promotion phase to Second.

-Fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh go to promotion group to Second B Pro.

-Eighth, ninth and tenth go to relegation phase to Third Division.

SECOND PHASE, INTERMEDIATE CLIMBING GROUP

-It is made up of 30 teams, the best three from each initial subgroup.

-It is divided into five groups of six teams.

-The three best of each of these groups go to the final promotion phase.

-The best quarter of the five groups also goes to the promotion phase.

-The fifths and sixths, along with the four worst quarters, do not opt for promotion to Second, but guarantee their presence in Second B Pro.

SECOND PHASE, FINAL GROUP FOR THE ASCENT

-It is made up of 16 teams, the best three from each subgroup in the intermediate promotion phase and the best fourth.

-They dispute traditional qualifying rounds, as up to now, but with the nuance that the former do not have a double chance.

– Ways are studied to give a privilege to the leaders.

SECOND PHASE, PROMOTION GROUP TO SECOND DIVISION B PRO

-It is made up of 40 teams, the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh of the initial ten subgroups.

-The remaining ten places will be disputed in Second Division B Pro. The first thirty are for the four relegations of Second Division, the losers of the final group due to promotion and those not classified for this from the intermediate phase due to promotion.

-It is considered that this group will dispute the promotions in a format similar to that of the Copa del Rey.

-Those who are not victorious could have another prize for the mere fact of achieving the classification.

SECOND PHASE, STAYING GROUP

-It is made up of 30 teams, the eighth, ninth and tenth of the initial ten subgroups.

-They would fight to avoid relegation to the Third Division.

-They would not have any option to play Second Division B Pro.
