En-Nesyri, at the level of the best European scorers

MADRID, 17 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Sevilla FC welcomes Juventus Turin this Thursday (9:00 p.m.) in the second leg of the Europa League semifinals after drawing in the first leg (1-1), in a match where the Sevilla goal was the work of Youssef En- Nesyri, a player who since the beginning of 2023 has been in a state of grace.

The Moroccan forward now seems different. Taking into account his records since the beginning of the year, he is the eighth player in the five major European leagues who has scored the most goals with 16 (all competitions). This number is even more relevant if one takes into account that in the first part of the season (until January 1) he only had two goals in his account after participating in 16 games.

An improvement in 2023 based on confidence and success. En-Nesyri is the striker with the best difference between goals scored and expected goals with +5.1, a better record than strikers like Marcus Rashford (+4.7) or Erling Haaland (+3.9). Data that indicates that the Moroccan striker has been able to convert into a goal actions that, a priori, were not so dangerous for the rival.

As for the effectiveness in the shot, En-Nesyri has the fifth best shot conversion percentage in all of Europe in 2023. The Moroccan international has sent 27% of the shots he has arranged to the back of the net, only surpassed in this section by Alexandre Lacazette (34%), Elye Wahi (33%), Haaland himself (30%) and Thijs Dallinga (27%).

Framing En-Nesyri’s performance strictly in the Europa League, the Moroccan striker has scored four goals in the seven games he has played, being the top scorer in the competition’s qualifiers along with Argentine Ángel Di María.

In addition, three of those goals from En-Nesyri have come in the three games he has played at Sánchez-Pizjuán. A great run at home that makes him the main offensive hope of the team coached by José Luis Mendilibar in the game against Juventus.

In 2023, En-Nesyri is also the second LaLiga Santander player to average a goal every less time in all competitions. The Moroccan scores a goal every 115 minutes of play, a figure only bettered by Real Madrid player Karim Benzema, who does the same every 107 minutes.

These are data that elevate En-Nesyri to the European scoring elite. For this reason, he is Sevilla’s great beacon to eliminate Juventus and get into what would be his seventh Europa League final, demonstrating in this case his idyll with the second highest tournament on the ‘Old Continent’. The outcome, this Thursday night at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.
