Dortmund’s plan to retain Haaland

Erling Haaland’s future remains unknown. What is clear, as the club reiterated on numerous occasions, is that Borussia Dortmund will do everything possible to retain the scorer beyond next summer. Tal and as detailed by numerous German media, in the Signal Iduna Park they have already drawn up a plan to continue counting on the services of a Norwegian star who, that was already clear in the past, does not have a termination clause set in his contract. In order to retain the jewel in the Borusser crown, Puma, sponsor of the Bundesliga as a whole, takes an important role.

According to the German newspaper “Bild”, the plan of those responsible for Borussia is to make the Norwegian the highest paid player in the club’s award-winning history. The outcome will depend on whether the forward changes sponsor. If Haaland were to decide to switch from Nike, the brand that carries Haaland today, to Puma, this would provide the club with new financial opportunities that could make it possible for the Norwegian to remain. However, it will not be decided until January if this happens.

Meanwhile, it seems essential that the BVB make a large outlay when convincing the Norwegian that his future must lie in Germany. According to the media of the Federal Republic, Haaland would demand a salary of around 30 million euros a year from any club that wants to sign him. Although the BVB cannot offer him that amount, the striker would become the highest paid player in the club’s history if he remains the reigning Pokal champion. Always according to “Bild”, those responsible for Borussia would be offering their best player a salary of between 16 and 18 million euros a year. It remains to be seen whether Haaland will accept this offer from BVB in the event of a sponsor change.
