Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, together again to congratulate Christmas

The emeritus complied with tradition this Tuesday and congratulated the Spanish people on the holidays in a joint greeting. Just as they did last year, Don Juan Carlos y Mrs. Sofia They have chosen a religious image, specifically the painting 'Adoration of the Shepherds', by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo.

It is an oil painting on canvas that measures 187 x 228 centimeters and is exhibited in room 017 of the Museo Nacional del Prado. On the back they have stamped their signatures next to the message “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2024.”

Gone are those congratulations in which the emeritus showed themselves as happy grandparents surrounded by all their grandchildren. Since August 2020, they have lived separated by more than 7,000 kilometers: Mr. Juan Carlos resides in Abu Dhabi; his wife, in Zarzuela. There is no evidence that the emeritus visited her husband in self-exile in the Emirates, nor in Sanxenxo, that her father Philip VI He has already visited three times this year and where he has received his daughter Elena and his sister Margarita, among others.

The last congratulations in which they appeared together was in 2019, in which they used an image taken a year before in Sanxenxo.
