Djokovic case live: trial resolution, last minute | Novak deported from Australia

The Serbian press speaks of “scandal”

In a first reaction to the expulsion of the tennis player Novak Djokovic, number one in the world and not vaccinated against the coronavirus, the Serbian press speaks this Sunday of a “scandal” and a “shame” unprecedented in international sport.

“Scandalous decision of the court: Novak is definitively kicked out of Australia!!”, headlines the Serbian newspaper Telegraf, while Kurir speaks of “The biggest shame in the history of sport”.

“Baseliness and shame” comments the Vecernje Novosti newspaper headline, “Djokovic has once again shown his greatness: “I am disappointed!” reports Sportski zurnal, and “Alo” estimates that it is a “Shame that is not remembered: Djokovic will have to leave Australia!”. At the same time that they condemn the decision of the judges and Australian politicians, Serbian newspapers highlight Djokovic’s noble reaction, who seems to have decided not to appeal the last decision of the Justice.

The tennis player had tried to enter the country with a special permit without having been vaccinated against the coronavirus and having provided contradictory data during the procedure, which triggered a legal dispute with the immigration authorities of Australia that lasted eleven days. Australia has been applying during the current pandemic one of the most restrictive policies against covid-19.
